I have put henna in my hair many times before. It lasts for approximately 6 months. It is better for your hair than dying it red (I think it is because there is no chemicals in it like hair dying does). As far as I know, there are no side effects to it. And I don't know anything about relaxing your hair..sorry.

okay well i tried henna and it didn't work to well ,and about the straightening thing. You should do what you think is right ,but if i were you i wouldn't do it cuz the relaxing thing ruins your hair. but thats just mi opinion. :)

You can usually get henna at middle-eastern stores (ones that have stuff printed in Arabic). It's a plant and they will stock the dried, powdered henna. Mix a couple tablespoons of the henna powder with water and work it into a paste. Let it set on your hair for 30 minutes or so, then rinse. The paste will look like green mud. You'll want to wash your hair after and use a conditioner, and your hair may seem a bit thicker at first.

If you have dark hair, it will add very subtle highlights and that's it. If you have lighter hair, it will gradually turn it reddish, but it's a natural looking red, not that disgusting flaming red that you see on so many women.

If you use it regularly, it will tone in gradually. If you decide you don't like it, just stop using it and it will tone out gradually. A large jar of pure henna will probably cost you $5 - $10, and will last you 40 or so uses. It's a lot cheaper than going to a hairdresser for the same thing.
