I'm getting a haircut tomorrow...any tips? I have curly hair but I straighten it often.?

I always get the same haircut: layers, coming down from the bangs (small, thin bangs on both sides that I can tuck behind my ears when I wear it up). I want my side bangs to be a bit thicker and come across my face a bit more, but my stylist doesn't seem to know what this means. Do you have any pictures I can show her? Also should I get the same boring layers? I have long-ish hair...how short should I go? Thanks!

Well, the shorter you go, the more curly your hair will become (having long hair weighs it down a bit, making it appear less curly).. If this sounds good to you then go shorter. The bangs you just have to let grow out and train them to stay that way. It isn't easy at first.. sometimes you have to use a bit of product to get it to stay! You should try using a cute clip to hold it until it stays well.. Plus your bangs need to be a little long to do that, but it sounds like they are. The best thing to do is just have them textured a bit at the ends (and a little around your face for the rest of your hair-this would look really cute when you straighten it), make sure there are enough of them (thin bangs don't work well), and train them(using the flat iron would definitely help)!

You might want to try someone else. Sometimes when you are going to the same person for a long time, they get stuck in a rut. Go to someone who is really busy...that's a good sign they are good. If you want something really modern and edgey go to a Vidal Sasson salon or someone who has been to the Vidal Sasson school. People that work at that salon have to go through an intense training program. I used to live in DC and my hairstylist used to work there. I now live in Charlotte NC and I wait to get my haircut for when I go to DC. I hope this helps

yes, try another stylist--one who's work you have seen on one of your friends and that you like. word of mouth is the best advertising--so ask when you see a haircut you like. look in magazines for pictures of what you want---there are a lot of hair style magazines with dozens of pictures of hairstyles. if you always wear your hair straight, go to the salon with your hair straightened so the stylist can see what you like, and what your hair is like when it is straight so she can cut accordingly. Don't be afraid to try something new with a stylist you trust--your hair will always grow back!
