Anyone have any tips on biracial hair on a 3 year old girl?

Its very thick, course, (child is african american %26amp; white) we would like her curls to be defined and smooth

I'm multi-racial, and can help a little.

First of all, curly bi-racial hair needs lots of moisture.

So cutting down on shampoo can help.

Once a week or every other week for shampoo is good enough.

You can wash her hair everyday if necessary, but just use water and conditioner and leave out the shampoo.

It's best to use a conditioner made to hyrdate or one made for curls. I like Bumble %26amp; Bumble Curl Conscious Conditioner and Pantene Ice Shine, or just about anything from the websites listed at the bottom of my answer. Leave on the conditioner for 10 minutes before washing out with warm water. If you want to add a little shine, use a cold water rinse.

You want to avoid styling products like mousse or gel because she is young, but if her hair is very dry, then you could decide if you want to just spray a leave-in conditioner like Infusium 23 Original Formula Leave-In Conditioner.

Also, try just finger-combing or use a wide-tooth comb on her hair after you have sprayed in the leave-in conditioner. If you brush after her hair has dryed, it will poof up and lose all curl definition.

Whatever you do, please do not use a relaxer. I'm sure her natural hair texture is gorgeous!

Here's some good websites with products and tips on caring for curly and bi-racial or multi-racial hair.

use a brand called Motions..it's very healthy for the hair and it defines the curls beautifully..I am sure you can find it at department stores, if not, sally beauty supply def. has it. It's a creamy hair lotion, and it's good for the scalp as well as the appearance of beautiful hair. And your daughter is only 3..other hair products might weigh down or even damage her hair..go for motions it works for almost everyone!

As a biracial woman, I find that castor oil (I buy it at Sally's) does wonders in defining curls and adding shine without a lot of buildup that heavier creams and moisturizers give. And please never use hairspray or mousse in biracial hair because it dulls our hair.

she will definately need some hair grease...whatever u do...do not put a perm or leave her hair dry...she will need a little hair grease and the curls wld definately be defined...now of course if u are still unsure just take her to a black beauty shop and let them take a look at her hair and they can give u more information on what u will need to do...

I wish I could see a picture. But I definitely wouldn't recommend any kind of relaxer for several more years. I liked pink oil products for mine at that age. I have 3 biracial girls, so feel free to ask me more.

Be very gentle. Many ppl don't realize how fragile african american hair really is. When you separate a strand from the curl you will find it may be very thin. Try natural products that moisturize. There's a good book I recommend called 'Curly Girl' It has lots of info on caring for all type of curls. Do some research, it'll help a lot.
