What I do is bend down and flip my hair over.

Its easier to straighten the back of my head like that.

(well, it is for me anyways)

Also, you could flip out the straightener at the ends.

Or curl with it... I haven't yet figured out how to do this. But search for "curling straightener" on youtube.

Get a straightening shampoo such as Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight.

Straighten your hair in 2 or 3 layers. Put most of you hair, except the bottom layer, up with a clip. Straighten the hair, then open the clip, let another layer down, straighten it, and so on.

While you straighten, use a paddle brush. Catch the hair as you straighten it.

Straighten each section of hair a few times, it helps keep it straight.

Use a heat-protecting spray on your hair before you straighten it. They're available at CVS, etc.

Start by sectioning your hair and begin from back to front. Don't add too many other products and def. don't wet it before straighting it.

some good tips are drying your hair all the way before you straighten it. Seperate your hair into two parts while straightening your hait. Clip half up and straighten the other half. Use some leave in treatment like infusium 23 when your hair is wet then dry and straighten it.

What are some good tips for straighting hair?

When straightening your hair it is most important to prepare the hair first so that is it ready for the irons.

The wash:

When shampoo and conditioning, try to use something that is designed for straight hair, as these products tend to relax the hair which allow the straighteners to glide through the hair easily and help to reduce frizz. Frizz-Ease Straight Ahead or Lee Stafford's Poker Straight ranges are good examples. Finish off with a blast of cold water to reduce frizz and promote shine.

Drying your hair and using products:

Whenever you straighten your hair it is important to use a leave-in conditioner that infuses moisture on your ends. This will help replenish any moisture that will be lost by the heat from the irons.

Also, use a straightening cream that encourages the hair to relax and to blow-dry straighter than usual. This will make straightening easier. If you can, buy a cream that protects the hair against heat so that your hair is not damaged as much by blow-drying. Work a small amount in your palms and work into the hair, starting from the ends going up to the roots. If you are unable to find a straightening cream/balm with heat protection, then buy a heat defence spray and spray a light coating over your wet hair.

Blow-drying:

Blow-dry your hair using paddle brush, on medium heat, directing the air flow downwards. Finish off with a cool shot.

Straightening:

The best way to straighten your hair is to do it in small sections. If the sections are too large then they won't straight properly and you will run the straighteners through your hair too much. The classic example of when someone has not been straightening their hair in small sections is when they have straight hair with a lot of split-ends with a kink in the middle. People like this have often had to clamp the irons hard down on the same piece of hair to straighten it, causing damage!

Note: If you are straightening your hair properly, you should only need to run the irons through each section of hair 1-2 times.

Spray the hair with a light coating of heat-defence spray before straightening.

Section off the hair starting at the back and working round to the front, comb each section and run the straighteners through it slowly. Repeat ONCE more if necessary.

Remember if you have to go over the same section more than twice, it is too large.

When you have straightened each section, finish off with a smoothing serum or dehumidifying spray.
